Sereni-tea at Bona Coffee

Sweetie and I found ourselves at Bona Coffee Westgate the other night. Our movie date was postponed since the movie we wanted to watch was SRO! Quickly left the mall and decided to drive around Westgate. Passed by Bona Coffee and decided to kill time there since we had a few hours before we could pick up Miguel from his prom.

Since it was evening I didn't want to drink coffee. I didn't find anything close to chai latte/milk tea so I had a hard time choosing. The jolly barista seeing that I was having a hard time suggested I try out their sereni-tea drink. He described what was in it but I stopped listening when he said that it had milk in it. I immediately said yes.

I was really excited to try out the drink since I've just been making my own milk tea at home the past few weeks. The color and consistency of the drink was similar to all the other milk teas I've drank but I was in for a surprise. The tea that was used in the drink was the "floral" kind. It tasted like sampaguita. I know a couple of people who like that kind of tea but I don't. I thought it was just a bit sweet so I added a bit of water, but this didn't dilute the floral taste.

Anyway, I guess I'm going to stick to coffee when I'm at Bona Coffee.

Why I Love Singapore

This is a phone with me having iced tea with milk an hour after I landed in Singapore. I had to go straight to the hospital for my check-up, but since we had about 30 minutes before my appointment we decided to have a snack. The snack turned out to be some yummy Korean beef and then I grabbed some iced tea with milk from the "drinks stall" for just SG$1.30.

One of the things I love about Singapore is the fact that you can get iced tea with milk anywhere and everywhere! Most hawkers center drinks stall sell tea with milk (except for the one on Victoria Street near Bras Basah Road, hmph!). I remember when Drew and I were on our way to Jurong Bird Park we actually got some at the bus station. (Yeah we are addicted to it!).

I was half-way through the drink when my husband finally got my attention for a photo-opt. Yumyumyum!

Pokka Milk Tea

One of the things I love about Singapore is the variety of beverages available. I cannot count the number of brands/flavors/SKUs you can choose from at hawker centers/supermarkets/convenience stores. Every time I head down to Singapore I always find myself checking out the nearest 7-Eleven store for new drinks.

My latest find is the ready-to-drink milk tea. I was jumping up and down with this discovery and Sweetie immediately put it in the grocery basket.

My take? It's pretty good, just a bit lemon-y for my taste, but that doesn't mean I won't drink it. If I had the chance to bring home some for Drew I would have. :)

Gold Kili Instant Milk Tea

So I got the chance to go to Singapore last week. I made sure to drink at least one glass of iced tea with milk every day since I won't be able to do that locally. One of the things I made sure to look for was instant tea milk since I was quite disappointed with the last one I tried.

I had a hard time choosing which brand to buy when we went to Cold Storage on Orchard Road. I wanted to buy several packs but was afraid of going overweight so I finally chose Gold Kili only because it seemed to be the most in demand (few left on the shelf).

And it was a good choice. Tastes a bit sharp though. A teaspoon of condensed milk takes the sharpness out and makes it the perfect instant milk tea.

Sariwangi Tea

Last Christmas I received a package from my Kuya and the package included a couple of packs of coffee. Just discovered this morning what was inside the box of tea (the text was in bahasa) and was pleasantly surprised to find 6 boxes of flavored tea!

Oh what joy! It's going to take me awhile though to sample them all.

Instant Tea Milk

We're seriously back-logged for this blog but I can assure you that both Drew and I have been scouring our individual cities for yummy tea drinks.

Saw this instant tea milk (Galingco Nai Cha) the other day at the grocery so I got one pack to try it out. I dissolved it first with some hot water before I added cold water and ice.

My take? Good thing I just bought 1 pack.

Complete Me Tea

So I need to do a lot of catching up with this blog that Drew and I concocted a few months back when we were in Singapore. It took us a long time to decide on a blog name because most of the names we thought about were already taken! So this blog took awhile to brew.

I'm honestly far from being a tea connoisseur. I only developed a liking to tea because I had no choice. I became allergic to powdered drinks and soda, so I was forced to explore other options.

I was 15 years old the first time I drank tea. It happened in Japan and we had to participate in a tea ceremony. I was terrified because I thought that it would be bitter and we were told that we had to finish everything that was served. After the first sip I realized that it wasn't so bad and that I liked it (it was green tea). Eventually I would drink tea every chance I got (which was rare).

I fell in love with tea and tea-based drinks again when I chanced upon Kopi Roti's milk tea (iced). I introduced it to Drew during a trip in Davao and he instantly fell in love with it. So we made a pact to find the best milk tea (and tea based drink) anywhere we go (even though we both become zombies when we drink it after 4 in the afternoon, blame the caffeine).

So this tea blog exists because of that pact and we hope to document all the best finds we chance upon.
